Student Voices Fighting Racism in the University

Facilitated by Dr Karo Moret-Miranda, the BIPOC association of the Australian National University and the University of Melbourne, the first two universities that produced a Report on Racism in 2021, the event will identify and address racism at the campus’s institutional, curricular, and social relations levels. Propose collaborative research with BIPOC student communities in Australian universities to promote social justice from the classroom (decolonising curricula) to coexistence spaces such as residences. Promote the creation of specific institutional supports (legal and mental health) for racism and discrimination in the university, similar to those existing for gender and LGTBQ+ supports in collaboration with BIPOC communities.
Guest speakers include Chanel Nguyen (BIPOC 2022) , Chido Nyakuengama (BIPOC 2021) and Katchmirr Russell (Indigenous Student Representative 2022) for the Australian National University, Hiba Adam (BIPOC 2022), Mohamed Hadi (BIPOC 2021), and Harley Lewis (Indigenous Student Representative 2022) for the University of Melbourne.
