In May 2020 the ABC screened a documentary on the history of the people of Yalata and the Maralinga Lands in South Australia. For the first time a film enabled anangu to tell this story in their own way. Maralinga Tjarutja was written and directed by Larissa Berendt for Blackfella Films, and filming was completed in February, narrowly missing the Covid19 lockdowns. Maggie Brady, an honorary associate professor (and previously an ARC Fellow) at CAEPR contributed to the film project as an adviser and participant, and was commissioned by the ABC to write a short article describing how this displaced community dealt with the challenge posed by the local availability of alcohol.
