Watch: Ukrainian documentary Masha & Valentyna

In 2023, the ANU Centre for European Studies, in partnership with the ANU Film Group and the Embassy of Ukraine in Australia had the honour of presenting a special screening of Masha & Valentyna (2022), a powerful documentary by acclaimed Australian director Simon Target.

We’re pleased to share that this important film is now available to a wider audience via SBS On Demand.

Masha & Valentyna tells the intimate stories of two Ukrainian women, 17-year-old Masha and 41-year-old Valentyna, among the millions who fled to Poland following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. With much of the footage captured on their own phones, this deeply personal film gives rare insight into the strength, resilience, and difficult choices faced by displaced families.
