Argentina is an important player in Latin America, a member of the G20, and the third-largest economy in the region. Australia and Argentina have shared interests in multilateral fora on a wide range of issues including trade, human rights, the environment, Antarctica, and arms control. Both countries are members of the G20, WTO, Cairns Group, the Antarctic Treaty system, and the United Nations. Two-way bilateral trade is of the order of $1.2 billion and Australian investment in Argentina is over $1.08 billion, especially in mining, agribusiness, advanced technology, and health services. People-to-people relations are underpinned by the presence of an important community of Argentina descent, a thriving work and holiday program, two-way tourism, and an increasing number of students at Australian universities.

The Argentine Secretary for Foreign Affairs, HE Pablo Tettamanti, is visiting Canberra for bilateral consultations with Australian counterparts. He has agreed to give a presentation on 17 October on the theme of “Australia and Argentina in the current International context”.

The Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS) and the Australian Institute for International Affairs (AIIA) invite you to attend the presentation on Monday, 17 October, at the Australian Institute of International Affairs (Suite 1, 32 Thesiger Court, Deakin, ACT).
