The Australian National Centre for Latin American Studies (ANCLAS) is pleased to join the School of Archaeology and Anthropology in the launch of Forecasts: A Story of Weather and Finance at the Edge of Disaster, by Caroline Schuster, Associate Professor, ANU School of Archaeology and Anthropology (and former Director of ANCLAS). The book is illustrated by Enrique Bernardou and David Bueno.

Forecasts is a graphic novel which draws on original ethnographic research and Paraguayan gothic art to tell a story about what happens when global insurance companies promise financial safety nets to local farmers struggling with the effects of climate change.

Based on more than a year of fieldwork in Paraguay, the book follows one man's possible journeys through a season of planting and harvesting, buffeted by losses and sustained by the hope that he can cultivate conditions that will help his family thrive.

The book will be launched by Genevieve Bell (Distinguished Professor and Director, School of Cybernetics, ANU College of Engineering, Computing and Cybernetics) and Armando Fernández Galté (Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of Paraguay) on Wednesday 1 November at the Classics Museum, AD Hope Building, 14 Ellery Crescent ACTON, ACT 2601.
