An interdisciplinary talk regarding the evolution of Mexican Music presented by Irma Enriquez in collaboration with Jacqueline Buswell

This paper and performance has been prepared by Jacqueline Buswell and Irma Enriquez and will give you a taste of the contemporary concert music from Mexico. It will be accompanied by a projection of selected Mexican composers and guests including Mexico Lindo Dance group and Paola Monroy soprano, member of MIA- Music from Ibero- America in Australia. 

Irma Enriquez Mexican pianist, she obtained her piano degree in 1993. In 1994 she obtained the Diploma in Art at the National University of Mexico. In 1996 she completed her Masters of Art at the University of Navarre, Spain. Her professional career includes concerts in Mexico, USA, Spain, Italy and Australia. Irma is an active member of the Music Teachers Association of NSW and was previously an Associate professor of ANU-ANCLAS. Irma received the Australian Hispanic Women Business Network´s Annual Award 2010. In 2011 she was nominated in Mexico for the National Prize in Arts, for her initiative and intensive promotion of Mexican Contemporary Concert Music in Australia. 

In 2015 Irma was finalist at the Vivid Sydney Creative Achievement Award, as a pioneer musician of Latin American chamber music. Since 2010 she has collaborated with ANU-ANCLAS with multidisciplinary projects for contemporary music of Latin America. In 2018, Irma received an honourable award from the embassies of Mexico and Venezuela at the ANU-ANCLAS, in recognition for her remarkable and outstanding musical career, for her valuable contribution of the Latin America music in Australia.

Jacqueline Buswell was born in rural NSW and completed a Bachelor of Arts at the Australian National University. She lived in Mexico for more than 20 years. Jacqueline has worked as a journalist for the ABC and SBS radio news services, and she wrote for The Canberra Times from Mexico and Central America for several years. Later she was head of the English language news service at the Mexican state news agency Notimex. In Mexico she also worked as a teacher of English as a second language, and is currently a Spanish-English translator and interpreter.

She completed a Masters of Arts in Creative Writing at the University of Sydney in 2011. Ginninderra Press published her first book of poems, Song of a Journeywoman, in 2013. In 2014 Jacqueline won awards in the literary competition TRILCE and from the Australian Association for Literary Translation (AALITRA).
