Which Post-Pandemic Population Challenges is Australia Facing, and Which Data is Available and Envisioned to Address Them?

Australia is facing various population challenges and unforeseen demographic changes post-pandemic: unprecedented low fertility rates, rising rates of mental ill-health, disparity in life-expectancy among subnational populations, and persistent social disadvantages of Indigenous Australians. We aim at bringing academics and policymakers together to discuss how these critical issues can be addressed, and which data we have, or will need to develop to address them.

The ANU School of Demography invites you to a very special symposium, which features expert speakers from academia and the public service, including the ABS, AIHW and the Treasury’s Centre for Population.

Speakers will present the latest data and research on population challenges in mortality, migration, fertility and the family, and future population change, as well as challenges faced by First Australians. They will discuss the population challenges Australia faces today, will take stock of the data available to assess them, and will discuss visions for future data development to address these issues.

*This event will be held both physically and virtually. If you are unable to attend in person, please register for an online ticket. Detailed Zoom instructions will be shared with online registrants before the event commences.
