Thursday 25 August 2022

On Tuesday 2 August, ANU student residence, Wamburun Hall and RSSS hosted the second Fighting Bigotry & Racism: Leading Change in the Social Sciences staff-student conversation.

The event featured Dr Jilda Andrews (Research Fellow ANU/NMA and Yuwaalaraay woman), Fred Leftwich (HDR student in CAEPR originally from the Butchulla, Kuku Yalanji and Doomadgee communities), and Natarsha Bird (Sciences undergraduate from the Anaiwan community), in conversation with Dr Karo Moret (History, RSSS) about Indigenous Studies.

Conceived by Dr Moret as a response to the 2021 ANUSA BIPOC department report of racism on campus, the conversation series provides a space for ANU staff and students to share experiences and discuss how learning and teaching at ANU can provide strategies and opportunities to address discrimination.

This series has been hosted by the ANU residential halls for residential and non-residential students. The next event in the series will be hosted by Fenner Hall in October on the theme of Intersectionality.
