Thursday 24 July 2025

On Wednesday, 23 July, colleagues, students, and friends gathered to honour the remarkable career of Distinguished Professor Angela Woollacott. This special event celebrated her profound influence on the fields of gender and colonial history. Against the backdrop of major changes in the university sector and challenging times for the humanities, it was also a time to consider the challenges and opportunities facing historians today.

As Professor Woollacott steps into retirement, the gathering served not only as a tribute to her many contributions to the School of History and the Australian National University but also as a reaffirmation of the enduring importance and relevance of gender studies.
