On 7 November 2024, the School of Politics and International Relations (SPIR) at the Australian National University (ANU), with the generous support of the Research School of Social Sciences (RSSS), hosted an engaging roundtable discussion on the outcomes and implications of the 2024 USA Presidential Election. Organised by Dr Constanza Sanhueza Petrarca (SPIR) and Dr Thiago Nascimento da Silva (SPIR), the event featured leading scholars, including Dr David Smith from the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, Dr Jana von Stein, Dr Ben Goldsmith, and Dr Shawn Treier from ANU.

The session examined the roles of race, religion, immigration, and gender rights in the election, as well as voter behaviour, misinformation, and democratic backsliding. Attendees participated in a thought-provoking Q&A exploring the critical impact of this election on democracy worldwide.
