The European Union and International Investment Law Reform: Between Aspirations and Reality?

The European Union and International Investment Law Reform: Between Aspirations and Reality?
22 June 2023, 5.30pm CEST
In-person seminar
Fondation Universitaire Brussels
Rue d’Egmont 11, 1000 Brussels, Belgium
The European Union has been one of the key drivers of the international investment law reform, pursuing the establishment of a Multilateral Investment Court (MIC) as a global solution for legitimacy concerns of the controversial investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanism. The EU’s reform has aspired to enhance the rule of law in its internal and external policy. However, the reform of international investment law has ultimately exposed the clash of different visions of the rule of law, with profound practical implications. This seminar gathers experts that will discuss the challenges of the EU reform stemming from practical realities of international investment law. (see seminar flyer)
This seminar will also be an opportunity to present the book The European Union and International Investment Law Reform: Between Aspirations and Reality, published by Cambridge University Press.
